Branches

"Branches" at ABMST

In the same way that a tree has many branches which are all connected at the level of the trunk, we organize our approach to the integrated body, mind, and spirit through "branches." The purpose of the branches are to highlight and emphasize different aspects of bodymindspirit work in order to help elevate the entire understanding of integrated therapy. As part of this approach, we are also recognizing that there are many pathways to an integrated theory and therapy. Mental health practitioners, due to their training and background, naturally tend to think in terms of how the body and the spirit fit into a person's psychology. By contrast, practitioners who begin their careers in bodywork and manual therapy naturally tend to think in terms of how a person's psychology and spirit fit into the body. And lastly, many spiritual leaders, by nature of their initial focus, tend to think in terms of how the body and the mind fit into the individual's spirit/soul.

In other words, how a practitioner begins their career tends to have a lasting influence over how they conceptualize, work with, and understand problems that arise in the full human client in front of them. And how each practitioner learns to integrate the body, mind, and spirit in their practices will tend to have different paths to get there.

With that in mind, we are introducing "The Mind" branch, "The Body" branch, and "The Spirit" branch. Although any practitioner can join any of the branches, the focus will differ slightly between them. The Mind branch is primarily geared for those practitioners who begin their careers as mental health providers (psychologists, psychiatrists, counselors, social workers, etc). The Body branch will be for those practitioners who begin their careers in the bodywork field (physical therapy, occupational therapy, massage therapy, chiropractic, acupuncture, etc). And The Spirit branch will be primarily geared for those practitioners who begin their careers as spiritual leaders and counselors.
